Location: Seattle or Bellevue

Position Summary:

The Volunteer Support Specialist will focus on recruiting, engaging, and training volunteers. This role involves facilitating volunteer training sessions and maintaining communication with volunteers through various channels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and identify the need for new volunteers, collaborating with the marketing team to align outreach efforts with mentor demand.
  • Prepare and disseminate program materials, ensuring regular communication with mentors, youth, and their guardians.
  • Manage a caseload of up to 100 volunteers, guiding them from initial interest to becoming established mentors.
  • Conduct orientation and training sessions related to Site Based Programming for team members, volunteer mentors, and partners.
  • Foster strong relationships with all stakeholders, ensuring volunteers are equipped with the necessary skills and information for successful mentoring.
  • Maintain accurate documentation to uphold youth safety and program effectiveness.
  • Develop and sustain ongoing partnerships with designated organizations, facilitating regular communication and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions, re-engaging them at pivotal moments in their journey.
  • Establish a supportive volunteer community that encourages peer support.

Agency Support Duties:

  • Set and achieve goals for new match growth, match duration, and volunteer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with other departments to explore potential partnerships and support agency initiatives.
  • Engage in mandatory training and ongoing professional development in areas such as:
    • Equity and Inclusion
    • LGBTQ Competency
    • Youth Development Best Practices
    • Trauma-Informed Approaches
  • Apply insights gained from training to enhance the experiences of mentors, mentees, and families.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Manager and Chief Program Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in human services, education, or a related field; or an Associate's degree with 4 years of relevant experience; or 8 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working with volunteers is preferred.
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle and possess a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with comfort in engaging with diverse populations.
  • Understanding of challenges faced by children and families from underserved communities.
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience facilitating training sessions for large groups.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrating excellent customer service.
  • Fluency in Amharic, Chinese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, or Vietnamese is advantageous but not mandatory.

Work Environment:

  • 30% of time spent at schools and partner sites engaging with youth and volunteers.
  • Routine office environment.
  • Frequent travel required.
  • Physical Demands: Role involves standing, walking, sitting, reaching, talking, and hearing. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs may be necessary.
  • Noise Level: Generally moderate.
  • Communication: 30% of work involves phone or email interactions with volunteers.
