We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Specialist to join our team at Children's Hospital & Medical Center. As a Patient Access Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our medical office, providing exceptional customer service to patients and families, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient information.
Key Responsibilities- Register new patients with complete and accurate demographics
- Verify patient/family demographic information and enter accurately in the computer at each visit
- Provide, collect, and accurately document all required patient paperwork
- Schedule patients accurately using the automated appointment system
- Maintain the daily physician appointment templates
- Contact patients/families with future appointments to confirm appointments and verify demographic and insurance information
- Verify patient's insurance eligibility and benefits using established automated process
- Initiate the Children's Connect sign up process for all new or inactive patients
- Respond to Children's Connect appointment messaging within defined timeframes
- Pull patient's charts as needed, release information as needed in accordance with organizational protocols
- Scan documents into the electronic medical record
- Collect co-pays and balances on past due accounts
- Post payments collected directly into the computer
- Complete end-of-day balancing and accurately prepare bank deposit
- Answer patient/family questions about owed balances and/or refer to Primary Care Physician Billing as appropriate
- Complete work queues daily to compile missing demographic and insurance information for billing purposes
- Support patient care quality initiatives as directed
- Complete miscellaneous reports and letters as needed
- Open and distribute mail in a timely manner
- Assemble patient packets as directed
- Pull and process all fax transmittals as directed, scan patient reports as directed
- Prepare and send hospital charges as directed
- Perform opening and closing duties as assigned by the office manager or designee
- Assist in the orientation and training of new employees as requested
- Facilitate handling of pharmaceutical representatives and vendors in accordance with office policy
- Monitor hourly and maintain clean, organized clutter-free lobby and clean patient restrooms
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum one year customer service experience
- Preferred experience working in a healthcare or insurance setting
- Excellent communication, listening, and customer service skills
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft operating environment
- Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations
- Ability to operate basic office equipment
- Knowledge of billing and insurance programs
- Knowledge of patient appointment scheduling systems in a medical office
- BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association
- Bilingual (English-Spanish) required for some personnel
- Travel to other Children's Physician clinics, based on staffing needs
