Position Overview:
This public announcement for the Engineering and Physical Science Specialist role may be utilized to fill additional similar positions within the U.S. Department of Energy as necessary. Applicants are required to meet the qualifications at the time of application submission. This notice may or may not lead to a referral or selection.

Salary Information:
The salary range provided reflects base compensation only. The actual final salary will be determined based on geographic location (including locality pay) and the pay band for which the candidate is selected.

Responsibilities:
Positions filled under this announcement may have varying levels of promotion potential, if applicable. As the employee advances in the role, they will be entrusted with a greater degree of responsibility for independently making decisions regarding both technical and administrative policies and for resolving complex issues and conflicting viewpoints.

As an Engineering and Physical Science Specialist, duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Applying engineering or physical science principles to support various engineering and scientific programs and projects.
  • Analyzing data and conditions to draw conclusions and provide recommendations.
  • Drafting technical reports and effectively communicating findings.

Qualifications:
This announcement will be used to fill multiple positions as they arise. Specialized Experience Requirements:
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements outlined in the Education section, candidates must possess the following specialized experience based on the grade level for which they are applying:
  • NN-02: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band level or GS grade level (NN-01 or GS-09) in the Federal Service.
  • NN-03: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band level or GS grade level (NN-02 or GS-11) in the Federal Service.
  • NN-04: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA pay band level or GS grade level (NN-03 or GS-13) in the Federal Service.

Core Competencies:
Applicants should demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Professional knowledge of principles and practices across multiple engineering disciplines (e.g., chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical) and physical science disciplines (e.g., chemistry, physics).
  • Ability to conduct studies to resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • Understanding of program and project management principles, budget processes, and procurement procedures.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders.
