The Eulerian Codes Group (XCP-2) is dedicated to the development and maintenance of large-scale, massively parallel multi-physics codes as part of the Advanced Scientific Computing (ASC) Program. Our team encompasses a diverse range of computational physics modeling disciplines, including numerical fluid and solid mechanics, materials science, radiation hydrodynamics, plasma physics, turbulence, magnetohydrodynamics, high explosives, nuclear physics and engineering, and particle transport.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and development of applied physics and engineering models.
  • Implement methods into production codes utilizing best software development practices.
  • Test and validate methodologies.
  • Provide education and support to users adopting these methods.

We prioritize mentoring for new staff to foster skill development and promote a collaborative team environment that encourages productive relationships with software users and other teams.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in computational modeling within the specified technical areas.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Fortran, C, or C++, with experience in developing multi-physics scientific codes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education/Experience:

A bachelor's degree in a STEM field (applied mathematics, physics, engineering, or related) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degrees (M.S. or Ph.D.) are highly regarded.
  • Experience with high-performance computing and numerical algorithm deployment on heterogeneous architectures.
  • Familiarity with LANL's mission and its impact on programmatic deliverables will be advantageous.

Work Environment:

This position is based onsite, and the commitment is for a defined period of continuous service.
