Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Coating Inspector is responsible for ensuring the proper application of protective coatings on pipelines, fabricated piping, and storage tanks. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of coating processes, the ability to operate testing equipment, and the enforcement of industry standards and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess extensive knowledge and expertise in the application of protective coatings.
  • Conduct visual and non-destructive examinations on stationary equipment, adhering to API and ASME standards, and provide technical recommendations for repairs or modifications.
  • Perform routine testing on materials and services, comparing results against established quality benchmarks.
  • Document and report inspection findings to the Supervisor for further analysis and action.
  • Identify and rectify defective work, implementing corrective measures as necessary.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspection data and quality levels.
  • Ensure compliance with client specifications and safety standards throughout the coating process.
  • Collaborate closely with other inspectors and contractors to ensure the integrity of the coating application.
  • Monitor material usage and waste, reporting findings accurately.
  • Execute additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience.

Essential Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of OSHA safety standards related to coating applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of API 510/570 and ASME standards; certification is advantageous.
  • Experience in non-destructive testing is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • At least two years of experience in coating application or inspection within the petroleum or chemical sectors, or one year with relevant certification.
  • API 1169 Certification is required for inspectors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to navigate various industrial environments, including climbing and walking on uneven surfaces.
  • Capability to wear personal protective equipment as needed.
  • Ability to perform tasks in confined spaces and endure varying temperatures.
  • Must be able to lift and carry weights up to 25 lbs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve coating execution plans and daily inspection reports.
  • Witness critical quality control tests and coordinate with contract quality control teams.
  • Document each stage of the coating process through photographs and reports.
  • Conduct inspections and assessments as per industry standards, ensuring compliance and quality assurance.
