Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Coating Inspector is responsible for ensuring the effective application of protective coatings on pipelines, fabricated piping, and storage tanks. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of coating processes, monitoring application techniques, and enforcing compliance with industry standards and specifications. The inspector will conduct daily inspections of surface preparation and coating operations across various sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate expertise in the application of protective coatings to pipelines, fabricated piping, and storage tanks.
  • Conduct visual and non-destructive evaluations on stationary equipment, adhering to API and ASME standards, and provide technical guidance for repairs and modifications.
  • Perform routine testing on materials and services, comparing results against established quality benchmarks.
  • Document inspection findings and report defects to management for analysis and corrective action.
  • Identify and rectify defective work, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspection data and quality assessments.
  • Collaborate with other inspectors and contractors to ensure proper coating application and adherence to specifications.
  • Monitor material usage and waste, ensuring compliance with client requirements.
  • Execute additional job-related tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience that meets job requirements.

Essential Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA safety standards related to coating applications.
  • Proficient understanding of API 510/570 and ASME standards.
  • Experience in non-destructive testing is advantageous.
  • At least two years of experience in coating application or inspection within the petroleum or chemical sectors, or one year of relevant experience along with NACE CIP Level III or SSPC PCI Level III certification.
  • API 1169 Certification is mandatory for inspectors.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to navigate stairs, ladders, and scaffolding.
  • Capability to traverse both even and uneven surfaces.
  • Willingness to wear personal protective equipment, including fire retardant clothing and safety gear.
  • Capacity to enter confined spaces and work in various environmental conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry weights up to 25 lbs as necessary.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve coating execution plans and daily inspection reports.
  • Oversee critical hold points during major coating projects and coordinate with quality control teams.
  • Document and assess the condition of existing coatings and recommend appropriate repair procedures.
  • Conduct external inspections and ensure compliance with industry standards.
