About the Role:

GPI is on the lookout for a full-time Head of Structural Engineering for our New England division. This role offers flexibility with potential office locations. The selected candidate will have the unique opportunity to influence the success of our projects and team members while overseeing a variety of responsibilities.

This position is responsible for managing all structural design initiatives and personnel in New England. Our current projects include the design of multi-span bridges, large-span structures, and iconic engineering feats. We are engaged in new designs, rehabilitation, preservation, and repair projects, encompassing the structural design and detailing of bridges, walls, and dams. With a robust project backlog and a long-standing history of positive client relationships, the potential for professional growth is substantial.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the structural engineering department in New England, focusing primarily on projects in Massachusetts, while also engaging in work across New Hampshire, Maine, and other states in the region.
  • Cultivate strong client relationships through consistent and transparent communication.
  • Establish a long-term vision, objectives, and strategic direction for the department.
  • Oversee the financial management of the department's operations.
  • Mentor and guide GPI's structural team leaders in New England.
  • Ensure the implementation of quality control and assurance measures for the department.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to manage business development and proposals for new structural engineering projects.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's Degree preferred).
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in structural design and project management.
  • Licensed professional engineer in Massachusetts or the ability to obtain licensure within six months of hire.
  • Capability to secure a professional engineer license in all New England states within six months of hire.
  • Strong background in bridge design, particularly with MassDOT.
  • Comprehensive technical expertise in superstructure and substructure design, cost estimation, and specification preparation.
  • Proven experience in project management, effective communication, and mentoring.
  • Familiarity with applicable bridge design codes.
  • A track record of positive client relationships in Massachusetts.
  • Demonstrated skills in communication, organization, and strategic planning for long-term success.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding plans and directions in English.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to create and edit documents in Microsoft Word and Excel, manage emails, and utilize communication platforms.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment while working.
