Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Director of Education to join our team at South Middlesex Opportu. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success of our early education programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the operational and fiscal activities of our early education programs, including staffing levels, budgets, and financial goals.
  • Recruit, manage, develop, and evaluate staff by providing timely mentoring, training, and performance management.
  • Provide a safe and healthy learning environment and build relationships and a culture of trust and teamwork.
  • Ensure all staff follow SMOC, Head Start, and EEC policies and procedures at all times.
  • Train and supervise staff on best practices and behavior management techniques.
  • Prepare and maintain children and staff files to meet all Head Start Performance Standards and EEC Licensing requirements.
  • Directly supervise and observe teaching staff through reflective supervision.
  • Maintain CLASS certification or obtain within 180 days.
  • Monitor classroom paperwork and provide feedback on lesson plans, newsletters, action plans, and assessments.
  • Monitor attendance and attendance supplements and follow up when needed.
  • Facilitate and document monthly staff meetings.
  • Regularly attend and participate in senior manager meetings, Head Start services meetings, education supervisor meetings, and school readiness meetings.
  • Coordinate delivery of transportation, health, special education, family, and food/nutrition services with other managers in Child Care/Head Start.
  • Responsible for ordering educational supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining facility by ensuring that all maintenance issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for assisting the Center Director with re-licensing of the center and NAEYC accreditation.
  • Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs, whether within or outside the scope of work.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client, employee, and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with program/department, agency, and/or funder requirements, as well as SMOC policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • BA degree in Early Education, preferred or working towards.
  • EEC Director II Certification.
  • Thorough understanding of EEC licensing regulations, NAEYC Accreditation Process, and HS Standards.
  • Understanding of the needs of low-income families, single-parent families, working parents, and families in crisis.
  • Previous experience in supervising staff in early education settings or significant experience as a Lead Teacher.
Working Conditions

As part of the responsibilities of this position, the Assistant Director of Education will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required.
