Job Overview

Objective:

The main objective of this position is to deliver spiritual care and emotional assistance to residents at White Horse Village, particularly focusing on those in the Health Care Center. The Spiritual Care Manager is responsible for organizing and facilitating religious activities and support groups for both residents and staff within the Health Care Center. This role also involves connecting residents with spiritual resources available in the broader community as necessary, while collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team and external agencies such as hospice when required.

This job description outlines the key responsibilities associated with this position. Administrative Duties:

  • Foster positive working relationships with personnel across departments.
  • Assist in the planning, development, organization, and implementation of departmental initiatives as directed.
  • Coordinate departmental services with other divisions.
  • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as filing, completing forms, reviewing memos, and attending meetings as required.
  • Promote a positive customer service environment.

Training and Development:

  • Participate in all mandatory training sessions and educational programs.
  • Engage in workshops, seminars, and courses as directed.

Health and Safety:

  • Implement and adhere to safety protocols and procedures in all job functions.
  • Report any injuries to a supervisor immediately.
  • Utilize proper lifting techniques and assist others when necessary.
  • Notify supervisors of any unsafe or hazardous conditions and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free workspace.
  • Follow all infection control protocols as applicable.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to fire and disaster response plans.
  • Use personal protective equipment when engaging in tasks that may involve infectious materials.

Equipment and Supply Management:

  • Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns without delay.
  • Notify the appropriate personnel of low or depleted supplies.
  • Utilize equipment solely for its intended purpose.
  • Follow established procedures when operating equipment.

Resident Rights:

  • Ensure the confidentiality of resident information is maintained.
  • Handle all resident property with care and respect.
  • Knock before entering a resident's room or living space.
  • Guarantee that residents are treated equitably and with dignity, allowing for individuality and privacy.
  • Uphold the civil rights of residents.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Adhere to all OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Review the Material Safety Data Sheets before working with any chemicals.
  • Treat all team members fairly and equally, regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, or marital status.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations as applicable.
  • Complete annual compliance training and demonstrate behavior consistent with the code of conduct in job performance.
  • Abide by the organization's code of conduct in all duties performed.

Committee Involvement:

  • Participate in the Assessment Committee, Spiritual Life Committee, and Village Neighbors.
  • Engage fully when serving on committees.

Health Care Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the planning, scheduling, and evaluation of all spiritual care activities within the health care center, aligning with the Mission, Vision, Values, and Health Care Philosophy of White Horse Village.
  • Propose and develop policies and procedures related to spiritual care to ensure the spiritual needs of health care residents are addressed.
  • Build trusting relationships through visits, presence, counsel, and conversations with residents, team members, and others.
  • Document spiritual interventions and communicate concerns with the care team.
  • Participate in relevant interdisciplinary team meetings as requested by residents or families.
  • Conduct spiritual assessments to facilitate coordinated care for residents on a referral basis.
  • Assist residents in adjusting to new circumstances, such as transfers from Independent Living to Personal Care or Skilled Nursing.
  • Provide consultation for the health care ethics committee as needed.
  • Develop a resource base of community clergy support.
  • Maintain an updated emergency religious resource list for specific faith groups or denominations as requested.
  • Offer education on spiritual care issues relevant to the elderly; provide in-service training to staff as needed.
  • Support the residential community with issues related to loss, grief, caregiver support, and other emotional needs as consulted.
  • Train and supervise volunteers from religious communities who provide spiritual support to residents.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Resident Service Responsibilities:

  • Provide spiritual and emotional support to health care residents and their families.
  • Lead or facilitate inclusive and welcoming services for all faiths and denominations.
  • Offer empathetic listening to residents.
  • Conduct individual visitations to residents as requested or referred by staff or family.
  • Coordinate end-of-life care support as needed, collaborating with hospice services when appropriate.
  • Facilitate a monthly grief support group for health care residents.
  • Communicate residents' preferences regarding end-of-life spiritual support to health care center staff.
  • Take proactive steps in developing pastoral relationships with residents.
  • Act as an advocate and/or mediator for residents and their families.
  • Provide or arrange appropriate religious observances within the health care center.
  • Manage and coordinate memorial services with family members to be held in the designated area.
  • Offer spiritual and religious resources for residents, families, and staff.
  • Facilitate groups within the health care center, providing spiritual programs based on resident needs and preferences.
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned.

Compliance Requirements:

  • Complete annual compliance and HIPAA training, demonstrating behavior consistent with the code of conduct in job performance.
  • Adhere to the organization's policies and procedures regarding the compliance program and report any concerns promptly.
  • Follow all local, state, and federal regulations pertinent to the position.
  • Comply with the organization's policies and procedures concerning privacy and security in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
