Job Overview

Objective:

The main objective of this position is to deliver spiritual care and emotional assistance to residents at White Horse Village, particularly focusing on those in the Health Care Center. The Spiritual Care Leader is responsible for organizing and facilitating religious activities and support groups for both residents and staff within the Health Care Center. Additionally, this role involves connecting residents with spiritual resources available in the wider community as necessary, collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team and external agencies such as hospice when appropriate.

This job description outlines the key responsibilities associated with this role. Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Foster positive working relationships with colleagues across departments.
  • Assist in the planning, development, organization, and execution of departmental initiatives as directed.
  • Coordinate departmental services with other divisions.
  • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as filing, completing forms, reviewing memos, and attending meetings as required.
  • Establish and maintain a customer service-oriented environment.

Training and Development:

  • Participate in all mandatory training sessions and educational programs.
  • Engage in workshops, seminars, and courses as directed.

Health and Safety:

  • Implement and adhere to safety protocols while executing job functions.
  • Report any injuries to a supervisor immediately.
  • Utilize proper lifting techniques and assist others as needed.
  • Notify supervisors of any unsafe conditions or equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free workspace.
  • Follow all infection control protocols as applicable.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to emergency plans.
  • Use personal protective equipment when necessary.

Equipment and Supplies:

  • Report equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Notify the appropriate personnel of low or depleted supplies.
  • Utilize equipment for its intended purpose.
  • Follow established procedures when operating equipment.

Resident Rights:

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding resident information.
  • Handle resident property with care and respect.
  • Knock before entering a resident's living space.
  • Ensure fair and respectful treatment of residents, honoring their individuality and privacy.
  • Uphold the civil rights of residents.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Adhere to all OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Review Material Safety Data Sheets before handling any chemicals.
  • Treat all team members equitably, regardless of personal characteristics.
  • Comply with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Complete annual compliance training and demonstrate conduct in line with established codes of behavior.
  • Follow the organization's code of conduct in all job-related activities.

Committee Participation:

  • Serve on various committees such as the Assessment Committee and Spiritual Life Committee.
  • Contribute fully to committee activities.

Health Care Administrative Duties:

  • Plan, schedule, and evaluate all spiritual care activities within the health care center, aligning with the mission and values of White Horse Village.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure the spiritual needs of health care residents are met.
  • Build trusting relationships through visits, presence, and conversations with residents and team members.
  • Document spiritual interventions and communicate concerns with the care team.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings as needed.
  • Conduct spiritual assessments to support coordinated resident care.
  • Assist residents in adjusting to new care statuses.
  • Provide consultation for health care ethics discussions.
  • Develop a network of community clergy for support.
  • Maintain an updated list of emergency religious resources.
  • Educate staff on spiritual care issues and provide training as requested.
  • Support the community with grief, loss, and emotional needs.
  • Oversee and train volunteers from religious communities providing spiritual support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Resident Service Responsibilities:

  • Offer spiritual and emotional support to residents and their families.
  • Facilitate inclusive religious services for all faiths.
  • Provide empathetic listening and visitation as requested.
  • Coordinate end-of-life care support in collaboration with hospice services.
  • Lead monthly grief support groups for healthcare residents.
  • Communicate residents' end-of-life spiritual support wishes to staff.
  • Initiate and nurture pastoral relationships with residents.
  • Act as an advocate for residents and their families.
  • Provide or arrange for religious observances in the health care center.
  • Coordinate memorial services with families.
  • Offer spiritual resources for residents, families, and staff.
  • Facilitate spiritual programs based on resident needs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Compliance Requirements:

  • Complete annual compliance and HIPAA training, demonstrating appropriate conduct.
  • Adhere to organizational policies regarding compliance and report concerns promptly.
  • Follow all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Comply with privacy and security policies in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
