Position Overview:

As a Project Engineer on a significant infrastructure expansion initiative, you will engage in activities related to the collection and analysis of financial data necessary for overseeing project budgets and forecasts. This role necessitates the application of resource management and control methodologies, along with a strong technical understanding of construction projects.

Flatiron Construction, in collaboration with a joint venture, has been selected to undertake a major expansion project in the region.

The extensive project scope will encompass: a new bridge-tunnel crossing, the replacement of existing marine approach structures, the addition of a third lane on a major highway in both directions, and a new bridge-tunnel complex designed to support 4 lanes of traffic, ultimately providing a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and field personnel to assess production timelines and ensure all necessary materials, equipment, and resources are available to maintain project schedules and budgetary constraints.
  • Review all design documents, specifications, material requirements, and project data throughout the project lifecycle to guarantee compliance with quality standards and contractual obligations.
  • Provide technical insights for project planning and scheduling, identifying potential risks related to production, materials, equipment, or processes that could adversely affect the budget or timeline.
  • Monitor daily production, schedules, and budget forecasts to accurately evaluate project performance, documenting daily activities using company-approved methods.
  • Update project schedules weekly for management reporting and participate in regular project meetings, presenting production status as required.
  • Execute additional tasks as directed by management.
  • Prepare and oversee a three-week work plan, alerting engineering and project management of any significant schedule adjustments and devising solutions to minimize delays and costs.
  • Initiate and manage all Requests for Information (RFIs) as necessary for the project.
  • Ensure accurate project quantity reporting using designated cost coding to maintain precise financial records. Coordinate invoicing with the accounting team regarding materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
  • Support the engineering team with quality assurance as needed, reviewing necessary certificates and permits for project execution.
  • Participate in safety meetings and ensure compliance with Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) to maintain a safe work environment for all personnel.
  • Assist the estimating team with project scheduling, budgeting, and cost parameters by providing necessary technical input.
  • Facilitate the development of design drawings and provide technical input as required.
  • Coordinate subcontractor work methods, schedules, and teams as necessary.
  • Conduct job close-out processes with owner representatives and field teams at project completion.
  • Uphold knowledge of company values and strategic objectives.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction engineering is required.
  • Experience with resource management techniques (e.g., cost accounting, basic estimating) and construction technology is preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge of design-build or alternative construction methodologies is advantageous.
  • Ability to set clear expectations for team members regarding roles and responsibilities.
  • Proficient in delegating and assigning tasks to engineering teams to advance project production.
  • Capable of managing multiple engineering tasks and aligning them towards a unified goal.
  • Advanced understanding of contract specifications and quality assurance practices.
  • Adept at identifying budgetary and project costs, recommending options to mitigate delays.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting methods, quantity tracking, and cost coding.
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling and production time management is preferred.
  • Ability to take responsibility and communicate effectively with others.
