Job Description

The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a highly qualified Adjunct Professor to teach a variety of courses in Construction Management Engineering Technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Teaching surveying, engineering mechanics, steel structures, and soil mechanics courses.
  • Contributing to program and curriculum development.
  • Advising and mentoring students, as well as participating in recruitment activities.
  • Demonstrating self-motivation to engage with industry on applied research projects.
  • Participating in ongoing assessment and accreditation activities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the department chair.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering with a Structure and/or Soil Mechanics concentration, or a closely related field (Ph.D. degree preferred).
  • Demonstrable track record of successful teaching and scholarship.
  • Good communication skills and a strong commitment to teaching excellence and proven ability to work collaboratively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching on the higher education level and ABET accreditation experience.
  • Experience with Blackboard technology.
  • At least three years of relevant industrial experience.
