Job Overview

Position Summary

The Senior Interventional Radiology Specialist collaborates closely with radiologists and a multidisciplinary team, including nurses and fellow technologists, to deliver exceptional support for interventional and diagnostic imaging procedures. This role emphasizes high-quality patient care in a secure environment. Beyond core responsibilities in Interventional Radiology (IR), the specialist may also assist in other imaging modalities such as CT, X-Ray, or surgical settings as required. Administrative tasks include updating procedural manuals, maintaining protocols, conducting quality control assessments, and aiding in staff scheduling.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties and Patient Interaction
* Operate independently as a scrub or circulator, ensuring sterile techniques are upheld during all procedures.

Prepare patients for procedures, ensuring all consent forms are reviewed and clinical concerns are addressed.

Manage daily reconciliation of patient procedure and supply charges.

Oversee image acquisition, transfer, and archiving, while troubleshooting any clinical or equipment issues.

Conduct various interventional examinations for both inpatients and outpatients.

Communicate procedures to patients, addressing their inquiries and concerns.

Prepare medications necessary for procedures.

Quality Assurance and Safety
* Adhere to radiation safety protocols as mandated by regulations.

Maintain thorough documentation for all patient procedures.

Identify adverse events and utilize critical thinking to alert medical personnel.

Assist management in quality improvement initiatives.

Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient confidentiality.

Professional Growth
* Participate in continuing education and professional development programs to enhance skills and knowledge, aiming for relevant certifications (e.g., VI, ACLS).

Engage with professional organizations related to the specialty.

Support inventory management to maintain optimal supply levels.

Keep licensure current.

Compliance and Safety Protocols
* Report safety incidents promptly using designated reporting tools; attend all safety training sessions; perform duties safely and monitor the work environment for potential hazards.

Stay informed and comply with state and federal regulations, as well as company policies affecting the role.

Ensure all necessary certifications and licenses are valid and up-to-date.

Complete all mandatory training modules within specified timeframes.

Leadership and Team Management
* Provide leadership and guidance to the IR team.

Act as a primary resource for staff, patients, and families, addressing any escalated concerns.

Serve as a subject matter expert in interventional radiology processes and procedures.

* Oversee daily operations of the department, ensuring efficient workflow.

* Manage staff schedules and departmental workflow.

* Participate in recruitment, performance evaluations, and team problem-solving.

* Act as the accreditation expert for the modality.

* Conduct tracer audits as necessary for the modality.

Qualifications

Education
Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology - Required
Bachelor's Degree in Radiology Science or a related field - Preferred


Certifications and Licenses
BLS - Required

Current Arizona Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) License - Required

Registered Radiology Technologist (ARRT) - Required
ARRT (VI) Certification - Required within 18 months of hire.

CVRT - Preferred


Experience
Minimum of 1 year as a general radiology technologist in a hospital setting - Required (3 years preferred)

At least 2 years of experience in Cardiac Catheterization/Vascular/Interventional Radiology - Preferred
Experience in a Trauma 1 or Trauma 2 hospital environment - Preferred
