Overview:
The Interventional Cardiovascular Specialist is responsible for executing procedures in interventional cardiology, vascular interventions, electrophysiology, and hybrid operating room settings.

Key Responsibilities:
Patient Interaction
* Collects and evaluates requisitions for examinations, including details on the requested procedure and patient condition.
* Reviews patient questionnaires and worksheets before initiating the examination.
* Conducts patient interviews to gather comprehensive medical history and documents relevant information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
* Clearly explains the procedure to patients to secure informed consent and alleviate any anxiety.
* Addresses concerns regarding radiation exposure.
* Safely transfers patients to the examination table, ensuring they are appropriately covered.
* Utilizes immobilization and supportive devices to enhance patient comfort and achieve precise positioning.
* Ensures proper placement and adjustment of lead shields and protective clothing for both staff and patients.
* Maintains patient comfort while striving for optimal results.
* Provides clear breathing instructions and continuously guides patients throughout the procedures.
* Analyzes digital images for quality assurance and performs quantitative assessments.
* Assesses patient conditions to determine appropriate exposure factors for tests, including voltage, current, and exposure duration.
* Demonstrates proficiency in collimation and adjusts equipment as necessary to produce high-quality images.
* Receives and communicates physician orders to the nursing staff for inclusion in the patient's EMR.
* Assists in conducting various procedures, including cardiovascular, vascular, electrophysiology, and hybrid interventions.
* Exhibits the ability to initiate and maintain intravenous and intra-arterial access.
* Manages and removes peripherally inserted central catheters.
* Performs both manual and mechanical hemostasis techniques.
* Utilizes closure devices effectively.
* Identifies cardiac rhythms accurately.
* Engages in physiological monitoring of patients.
* Provides support to patients and families by facilitating necessary referrals (e.g., social services, case management).
* Delivers and documents educational information to patients, families, and the healthcare team.
* Records interventions, responses, and status changes in the EMR and communicates these to the healthcare team.

Education:
* Provides education and oversight to students and other healthcare professionals.

Compliance and Safety:
* Responsible for timely reporting of any safety-related incidents through the appropriate channels; participates in all safety training programs; performs duties in a safe manner; monitors the work environment for potential safety hazards and ensures compliance among colleagues.
* Remains informed and adheres to state and federal regulations and company policies relevant to the role.
* Ensures all required certifications and licenses are current and valid prior to expiration.
* Completes all mandatory training modules and job-specific training within designated timeframes.
* Archives images according to established protocols.

Qualifications:
Education:
Associate's degree in Radiological Technology - Required
Bachelor's degree - Preferred
Certifications:
MRTBE, ARRT - Required
BLS (American Heart Association) - Required
ACLS (American Heart Association) - Required
CI, VI, RCIS - Preferred
Employees are expected to maintain appropriate clinical competencies as designated by their departmental leader.

Experience:
Two years of experience as a general radiographer or six months as a certified specialist - Preferred.
