Research Scientist - Solt Laboratory

Job No: 527669
Work Type: Postdoctoral Researcher
Location: Not Specified
Categories: Biological Sciences
Department: SR-IM-SOLT LAB

Position Overview

The Solt Laboratory at The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute of Biomedical Innovation and Technology, within the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, is in search of exceptional, innovative, and self-driven postdoctoral researchers. The focus of the Solt lab is to investigate and elucidate the mechanisms by which nuclear receptors, a class of ligand-responsive transcription factors, impact T cell maturation, functionality, and chronic inflammatory conditions. This NIH-funded postdoctoral role will specifically explore the transcriptional regulation of TH17-mediated autoimmune responses and chronic inflammation, particularly in relation to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Research Scope

This project encompasses a multidisciplinary approach, employing a diverse array of methodologies including immunology, murine genetics, molecular biology techniques, proteomics, and genomics. The successful candidate will engage in all facets of the project, from experimental design to data analysis and interpretation. The candidate will be expected to take on a leadership role within the lab, fostering an environment of scientific excellence, advancing complex and innovative projects, and contributing to the development and writing of grant applications. Participation in departmental seminars, journal clubs, and both national and international conferences will also be integral to this role. Dr. Solt is dedicated to nurturing the professional growth of all her trainees, providing substantial one-on-one mentorship and opportunities for women scientists who often exit the scientific workforce at this career stage.

Work Environment

This position involves work in a laboratory and vivarium setting. Specific physical requirements and essential functions will be discussed during the interview process.

Compensation

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. (or MD/PhD) in biological sciences such as immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, or biochemistry, along with a robust international publication record.

Preferred Skills

Preference will be given to candidates with:
  • Expertise in immunological techniques including cell culture, flow cytometry, and murine models of inflammation.
  • Proficiency in biochemistry methods such as immunoprecipitation and Western blotting.
  • Experience with epigenetic/genomic techniques: ChIP, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, CUT&RUN, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of bioinformatics (R, Python, or similar programming languages) or a willingness to learn.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English, along with excellent organizational, detail-oriented, and analytical capabilities.

Application Instructions

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, a brief overview of research interests, and relevant experience. This position will remain open until filled. Candidates are also required to provide the names and email addresses of three to five references as part of the application process. The hiring department will reach out to the listed references for their letters of recommendation.

The final candidate will need to provide an official transcript upon hire. Degrees obtained from institutions outside the United States must be evaluated by a professional credentialing service provider approved by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
