Position Title: Clinical Nurse Specialist in Hematology/Oncology - Infusion Services - Part-Time

Role Overview: As a vital member of the Stony Brook Cancer Center team, you will be responsible for overseeing patient care within the infusion clinic. Your expertise will be crucial in managing infusion reactions and ensuring patient safety during treatment.

  • Effectively manage and respond to infusion reactions, providing appropriate interventions.
  • Evaluate and clarify infusion orders, making necessary adjustments for optimal patient care.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients receiving treatment in the infusion clinic.
  • Analyze laboratory results and provide insightful recommendations based on findings.
  • Oversee the management of chemotherapy complications, including the preparation and modification of chemotherapy orders.
  • Handle outpatient inquiries, focusing on toxicity assessments and guidance.
  • Provide immediate care and management for walk-in patients experiencing health issues.
  • Educate patients and their families about potential chemotherapy side effects and toxicities.
  • Utilize hospital information systems and basic software tools effectively.
  • Adapt to evolving responsibilities as the role develops over time.

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:

Nurse Practitioner: Must possess a valid NYS RN license, along with a Master’s degree in Nursing (or equivalent). Certification as an Adult and/or Family Nurse Practitioner is required.

Physician Assistant: Must hold a NYS License and certification as a Physician Assistant, with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited PA program.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in oncology patient management and treatment, strong communication skills, and familiarity with chemotherapy-related toxicities and infusion reactions are highly desirable.
