MRI Imaging Intern - SB Clinical Practice Management

Location: Stony Brook, NY

Schedule: Full Time

Days/Hours: Monday through Friday - 8:00am to 4:30pm

Compensation: $20/hour

Our compensation strategy is designed to offer competitive salary packages that reflect the market and the individual’s experience and education. Discussions regarding salary will take place during the hiring process and may also occur during performance reviews and promotional opportunities. Salary levels are determined based on experience, education, and current market conditions. Human Resources is responsible for ensuring equitable compensation for all employees.

Key Responsibilities

SUMMARY: The MRI Imaging Intern is expected to demonstrate creativity and responsibility in delivering high-quality clinical care, while also ensuring the production of accurate images for diagnostic purposes. The intern will work closely with a senior technologist and will represent the Radiology department in providing services to various departments and referring physicians. The intern will report directly to the Assistant Director in the MRI section.

Essential Duties:
  • Conduct MRI examinations under the direct supervision of a senior technologist.
  • Perform a range of technical procedures requiring independent judgment and initiative for radiological diagnosis.
  • Take responsibility for assigned areas or procedures as necessary.
  • Position patients and utilize immobilization devices to ensure quality diagnostic imaging.
  • Select appropriate technical factors tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Operate imaging equipment as instructed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards in all imaging procedures.
  • Conduct quality assurance on images and assist in the transfer of images to the PACS system for reporting.
  • Support physicians in administering contrast media.
  • Adhere to sterile techniques to prevent contamination.
  • Assist in basic first aid when required.
  • Perform routine quality control tests.
  • Engage in research activities within the specialty as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records as directed.
  • Ensure cleanliness and orderliness in the work environment.
  • Manage supplies effectively.
  • Collaborate with all personnel to ensure smooth departmental operations.
  • Rotate through various departments and shifts as required.
  • Uphold ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Comply with hospital and departmental policies and regulations.
  • Participate in training and development programs.
  • Complete annual recertification and compliance training, including HIPAA training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications

Required Education & Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree and graduation from an accredited Radiology program.
  • Temporary State of New York License in Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Successful completion of an MRI Certificate Program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential.
Physical Requirements:

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. The intern will regularly communicate with patients, staff, and medical providers, necessitating the ability to exchange accurate information. This position is active and requires the intern to move throughout the office to assist patients and staff. Additional physical demands will be communicated by management as necessary.
