Heavy Equipment Technician / Field Service Specialist

Job Overview

Milton CAT is in search of a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team. This role involves the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of both customer and company-owned heavy machinery and components. The technician will be expected to perform various tasks, which may include working outside of regular hours for urgent service calls or routine maintenance as necessary. A flexible approach and comprehensive product knowledge are essential for success in this position.



Key Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, reassemble, and install machinery components and parts.
  • Diagnose issues and determine the root cause of failures through systematic troubleshooting.
  • Assess the reusability of parts based on established guidelines.
  • Order replacement components, ensuring accuracy and completeness at the time of order.
  • Clean, repair, and maintain machinery and its components.
  • Test, measure, and adjust engine and machine systems as needed.
  • Prepare, inspect, and operate machinery prior to delivery.
  • Stay updated on advancements in tools, technologies, and systems.
  • Compile inspection and appraisal reports.
  • Generate accurate and timely service reports.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with company standards.
  • Be available for after-hours work to meet client needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a technician specializing in heavy equipment.
  • Experience with CAT machinery or comparable equipment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including transmissions, engines, and hydraulics.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair heavy equipment in a field setting.
  • Required certifications: DOT and MSHA.
  • Proficient in using computers and related software (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate a service vehicle.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Capability to lift over 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced service environment.
  • Maintain a sufficient tool inventory for assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrated safe working practices.

Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Possession of a CDL License.
