Water Utilities Department

Position: Heavy Equipment Operator

Exciting opportunity within the municipal sector. The Water Utilities Department is seeking a qualified Heavy Equipment Operator. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) reporting primarily to the Water Utilities Director or designated representative.

Key Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will perform skilled tasks related to maintenance, construction, snow removal, and repair activities within the Water Utilities Department, which includes wastewater management, collection systems, and water treatment/distribution operations.

Equipment Utilized: The role involves operating various equipment, including but not limited to: backhoe, front-end loader, dump truck, high-pressure sewer jet, air compressor, jackhammers, sanders, graders, motor vehicles, chainsaws, asphalt saws, mowers, cement mixers, snow blowers, atmospheric testing equipment, confined space retrieval systems, and various hand and power tools.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment and pipe installation is required.
  • A valid NH Class B License with airbrakes is mandatory.
  • Grade I Collection System certification is preferred, or the ability to obtain it within a specified timeframe.
  • At least one year of experience in mechanical or trades work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Prior experience in road work or construction is advantageous.

The compensation for this position will be based on qualifications and experience. This is a non-union role that includes a comprehensive benefits package and participation in the NHRS retirement system.
