Educational Support Specialist at Cardinal Valley Elementary

The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting certified educators in delivering tailored instruction to individual students or small groups. This position is vital for monitoring and reporting on student progress to ensure effective learning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individualized tutoring to students, reinforcing educational content as directed by the teacher while maintaining accurate records of student advancement. Collaborate as part of an instructional team, including remediation efforts, fostering positive relationships with parents and colleagues, and serving as a resource for student evaluations when necessary. Facilitate student transportation to and from activities, assisting in necessary preparations. Organize and prepare lesson materials as instructed by the teacher; administer and evaluate various assessments in accordance with established protocols; assist in assessing English proficiency for designated students. Support the administration of diagnostic assessments; accurately score and document results; comprehend and assist in implementing and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as required. Observe and report on student behavior following approved procedures; provide updates on student performance and conduct; assist students with laboratory tasks as needed. Perform routine clerical tasks, including preparing instructional materials, operating copy machines, and maintaining classroom and attendance records. Assist teachers by organizing workspaces, setting up displays, operating audio-visual and educational equipment, and managing supplies. Oversee students during laboratory sessions or other activities; manage inventory of supplies as needed. Assist students with physical tasks such as dressing, transitioning between rooms, and using restroom facilities; support students in boarding and disembarking from transportation. Provide emotional support, positive examples, and general guidance to students. Engage with teachers regarding programs and materials to effectively meet student needs. Contact parents of absent students and conduct home visits when necessary. Ensure student health and safety by adhering to established health and safety protocols. Lead group activities as assigned; assist in monitoring lunchroom and playground environments; support emergency drills, assemblies, and field trips. Participate in training sessions and meetings as required. Perform additional duties as assigned. Maintain consistent attendance.
Qualifications:
A minimum of college credit hours or successful completion of the Kentucky Paraeducator's Assessment, or an Associate's Degree, along with experience working with youth in structured environments and some instructional experience in educational settings with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge and Skills:
Understanding of fundamental subjects taught in District schools, including mathematics, language arts, and reading. Awareness of safe practices in classroom and playground settings. Proficiency in English usage, grammar, and vocabulary. Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating tact, patience, and courtesy. Basic record-keeping abilities.
Abilities:
Learn and apply child guidance principles. Communicate effectively and build relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members. Perform clerical duties in support of classroom activities. Write and print legibly. Quickly and accurately perform basic arithmetic operations. Understand and follow both oral and written instructions. Learn and adhere to the procedures and limitations of assigned responsibilities. Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Apply and explain relevant policies and procedures. Collaborate effectively with others. Monitor and report on student behavior in accordance with established policies. Operate educational and office equipment proficiently.
Working Conditions:
Work involves standing, sitting, and walking. Effective communication requires the ability to use speech, vision, and hearing. Use of hands for grasping and fine motor tasks is necessary. Physical activities may include bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching. Must be capable of lifting up to fifty pounds, not exceeding one-third of body weight.
