Licensure/Certification:

Must possess one or more of the following: 1. Kentucky Registered SRNA, 2. RN nursing student who has completed initial fundamental coursework and clinical practice, 3. Military Medic, 4. Graduate from an accredited medical assistant program, 5. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), 6. Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), 7. Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), 8. Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), 9. A CST III at UK in the last 12 months, 10. Graduate of a licensed practical nursing program. Additionally, BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire.

Physical Demands:

The role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull weights regularly; as well as the capacity to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. The work environment may involve exposure to infectious diseases and potential injury from challenging patients or sharp instruments.

Work Schedule:

Shifts may vary: Primarily Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with potential holiday coverage. Responsibilities include providing support at multiple clinical locations.

Position Overview:

The Healthcare Support Specialist will engage in direct patient interaction and offer clinical assistance to healthcare providers. Responsibilities encompass but are not limited to: gathering patient medical histories, facilitating patient flow, preparing examination rooms, maintaining inventory of medical supplies, navigating electronic health records, scheduling and managing follow-up appointments, and assisting with medication refill requests, prior authorizations, and arranging tests, procedures, and consultations. The Specialist will liaise with pharmacies, insurance entities, patients, and healthcare professionals in a courteous manner, adhering to organizational values of service excellence.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

Strong customer service orientation, effective verbal and written communication, organizational skills, ability to multitask, proficiency in phlebotomy, patient care, vital signs assessment, and medical assisting in an outpatient environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not entail supervisory duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

1 year of clinical experience is preferred, particularly in an outpatient setting. Certification as a Medical Assistant is also preferred.
