Key Responsibilities:

  • Address technical inquiries from patients regarding treatments, symptoms, prescriptions, and other concerns, primarily via phone.
  • Coordinate tests as requested by physicians, obtain necessary pre-authorizations, and communicate results to patients.
  • Process prescription refills through written, faxed, or electronic methods.
  • Manage outgoing referrals and ensure chart information is sent as required.
  • Request and scan medical records from other healthcare providers into the EHR system.
  • Assist in clinic operations as needed, including duties as an ophthalmic technician.
  • Complete patient documentation (workers compensation, FMLA, etc.) and accurately record work in the EHR system.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to demonstrate courtesy, diligence, integrity, and teamwork.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective listening, clear communication, and patient problem resolution.
  • Capability to build and maintain strong relationships with physicians, colleagues, and patients.
  • Proficiency in navigating multiple computer systems for data entry and retrieval.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of eye anatomy, disease processes, and common tests.
  • Knowledge of billing and coding practices for tests and diagnoses.

Education Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant certification is preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • Preferred experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant or Medical Assistant.
  • 1-2 years of experience in front or back office roles is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
  • Capability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
