Job Title: Walden School Teacher

Job Type: Full-time

Description:

The Learning Center for the Deaf is seeking a qualified Walden School Teacher to join our team. As a Walden School Teacher, you will be responsible for providing quality educational services to our students, including planning creative lessons and classes that satisfy IEP goals, maintaining a classroom environment that fosters learning, and implementing behavior or treatment plans as they apply to the classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the school's clinical team to adapt and modify instruction to meet the individual needs of students
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences within the school community
  • Prepare daily lesson plans and educational programming consistent with students' Individualized Educational Plans
  • Provide detailed lesson plans and assignments for classroom assistants
  • Develop thematic units that identify long-range goals and objectives with respect to the educational and emotional needs of students
  • Prepare instructional materials incorporating principles of effective instruction, such as visual aids, curriculum modifications, and mediated learning principles
  • Write educational portions of IEPs, quarterly reports, and other reports as necessary, according to established deadlines
  • Report on students' progress through written and verbal communication
  • Maintain high standards and expectations for students

Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Education/Deaf Education
  • Massachusetts State Certification (preferred)
  • Fluency in American Sign Language required
  • Verbal and written communication skills sufficient to ensure effective communication
  • Understanding of child/adolescent mental health
  • Interpersonal skills developed to a level which will allow smooth cooperation at all levels within the agency
