POSITION SUMMARY:

The overnight child care specialist is entrusted with the safety and supervision of children during critical overnight and early morning hours. This role requires remaining awake to ensure that students are safe and comfortable throughout the night.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Address all student needs during the night and morning hours, including supervision, support, crisis intervention, and behavior management.
  • Conduct regular child checks at least four times each hour, increasing frequency for students identified as at risk for self-harm or elopement.
  • Adhere to specific instructions related to individual students, such as monitoring them until they fall asleep or waking them during the night for health reasons.
  • Assist daytime staff with morning routines, including waking children, supervising breakfast, and ensuring proper hygiene practices.
  • Maintain daily logs for each student.
  • Communicate any concerns regarding student behavior to relevant agency personnel.
  • May receive training to administer medication or perform specific medical procedures for students.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • ASL proficiency preferred
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of an educational team
  • Experience in human services preferred
