Walden School is a recognized residential therapeutic and educational program catering to deaf children and youth aged 8 to 22, many of whom have faced significant challenges and language deprivation.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The overnight child care specialist is tasked with ensuring the safety and supervision of children during critical overnight and early morning hours. This role requires the individual to remain alert and attentive, guaranteeing that students are safe and comfortable throughout the night.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend to all student needs during the night and morning hours, including supervision, support, crisis intervention, and behavior management.
  • Conduct regular child checks at least four times per hour, increasing frequency for students identified as at risk for self-harm or elopement.
  • Adhere to specific instructions related to individual students (e.g., monitoring outside a door until a child falls asleep; waking a child during the night to prevent bedwetting).
  • Assist daytime staff with morning routines, including waking children, supervising breakfast, and ensuring proper hygiene practices.
  • Maintain daily logs for each student.
  • Effectively communicate any concerns to relevant agency personnel, particularly regarding high-risk behaviors.
  • May receive training to administer medication or perform specific medical procedures for students.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • ASL proficiency preferred
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of an educational team
  • Experience in human services preferred
