About Walden School:

Walden School is a renowned residential therapeutic and educational institution catering to deaf children and youth aged 8 to 22, many of whom have faced significant challenges and language deprivation.

About TLC:
The Learning Center for the Deaf is a recognized leader in providing services for deaf and hard of hearing individuals and their families.

Position Summary:

The role involves executing treatment plans and ensuring the safety and well-being of children residing at Walden School.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee children during daily activities and assist with essential living skills.
  • Support children using methods aligned with the treatment philosophy of Walden School.
  • Establish and maintain meaningful relationships with children while upholding appropriate adult/child boundaries.
  • Communicate relevant information regarding students to other staff through logs and reports.
  • Maintain certifications in PART, Pro-Act, OSHA, CPR, and First Aid.
  • Apply behavior management techniques consistent with the mission of Walden School and individual treatment plans.
  • Design living skills activities that are suitable for the age and abilities of students.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum one year of experience in a residential treatment setting or a degree in Human Services preferred.
  • Experience in crisis prevention and the ability to manage challenging behaviors preferred.
  • Ability to remain calm and supportive during crises.
  • Conversational fluency in American Sign Language is required; native or near-native fluency is preferred.
