Position Title: Culinary Operations Manager

Location: Mound Street Production Kitchen

Reporting To: Food Production Director

Position Summary: The Culinary Operations Manager is tasked with managing the daily functions of the Meals on Wheels production kitchen. This position is essential for ensuring the effective preparation, packaging, and distribution of healthy meals to clients. The manager will lead kitchen personnel, oversee inventory management, uphold food safety standards, and work collaboratively with various departments to achieve organizational objectives.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Operational Oversight:
    • Direct daily kitchen activities, including meal preparation, cooking, and packaging.
    • Design and implement kitchen workflows and processes to improve efficiency and productivity.
    • Guarantee compliance with meal schedules and deadlines.
  2. Team Leadership:
    • Supervise, train, and assess kitchen staff, including cooks, kitchen aides, and volunteers.
    • Organize staff schedules and collaborate with HR for recruitment and onboarding.
    • Encourage a positive workplace culture and address any personnel issues or concerns.
  3. Quality Assurance:
    • Maintain exemplary standards of food quality and presentation.
    • Monitor compliance with food safety regulations, including proper handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits of kitchen equipment and facilities.
  4. Inventory Oversight:
    • Manage inventory of food supplies and kitchen equipment.
    • Work with procurement staff to order supplies, manage stock levels, and minimize waste.
    • Implement cost-effective purchasing strategies and budget management.
  5. Menu Development and Nutrition:
    • Collaborate with dietitians to ensure all menu modifications adhere to nutritional guidelines.
  6. Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure kitchen operations align with local health and safety regulations.
    • Maintain precise records of food production, inventory, and staff activities.
    • Prepare and present operational reports to management.
  7. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Coordinate with other departments, including logistics and client services, to ensure seamless meal delivery.
    • Communicate effectively with volunteers and community partners.
  8. Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for enhancement in kitchen operations and implement necessary changes.
    • Stay informed about industry best practices and trends.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in a managerial role within a food production or service setting.
  • Strong understanding of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication abilities.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and kitchen management software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and transport heavy items, such as food supplies and equipment.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks related to kitchen operations.

Work Environment:
