Job SummaryThe Sous Chef will be responsible for preparing food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. This role will involve leading the culinary team, providing training and leadership, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and culinary excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Food Preparation and Service: Coordinate food preparation and meal service, plan and initiate cooking schedules, and prepare, season, cook, and serve food according to established standards.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and assist in storage of supplies and food products, determine amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus, and notify the Executive Chef of food, supplies, or equipment needs.
- Cleanliness and Safety: Clean equipment and work areas, be knowledgeable of Federal, State, and facility's rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, and follow defined safety codes while performing all duties.
- Communication and Teamwork: Communicate effectively with various levels of staff, residents, family members, and the public, and work collaboratively with the culinary team to achieve common goals.
- Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent education, with a minimum of one year of food service experience in a healthcare dietary setting.
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to read, write, and speak English, numerical ability to make computations in keeping work records and in recipe preparation, motor coordination and manual dexterity to prepare food and operate dietary equipment, and willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions.
This is an hourly position, with expected hours to include days, evenings, some weekends, and some holidays. The successful candidate will be required to stand and walk continuously throughout the working day, and will be exposed to temperature and humidity changes as in entering refrigerated storage areas, working at ovens, ranges, dish-washing machines, and at steam tables.
The successful candidate will also be required to lift and/or carry 50 to 75 pounds, and will be expected to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
