Position Overview: Key Responsibilities

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for meticulously following physician directives and adhering to regulations regarding radiation use to safeguard themselves, patients, and colleagues from unnecessary exposure.

  • Ensure accurate patient identification for imaging studies and manage routing to PACS.
  • Maintain a daily log of patient interactions.
  • Operate imaging equipment to generate high-quality mammographic images.
  • Gather essential patient information from medical records and previous scans for clinical correlation.
  • Prepare and assist patients for mammographic imaging as per physician requests.
  • Deliver patient care with dignity and respect.
  • Educate patients about the imaging procedures being performed.

Achieve optimal image quality through proper anatomical positioning and adherence to protocols established by radiologists.

Follow safety protocols, including radiation protection and universal precautions.

  • Conduct daily checks and weekly quality assurance on equipment.
  • Complete all necessary documentation related to quality assurance activities.
  • Perform quality control checks on imaging equipment and report any deficiencies to the appropriate personnel.

Work independently while demonstrating flexibility in job assignments.

Exhibit a commitment to total quality management and service excellence by aligning actions with the organizational mission.

Stay informed about advancements in technology and safety measures for self, patients, and visitors.

  • Process imaging studies onto CD or film format while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
  • Maintain cleanliness of imaging equipment and work areas.
  • Be familiar with the location of emergency drugs and equipment.
  • Understand the department's booking, scheduling, duplication, and PACS systems.
  • Enhance professional and technical knowledge through ongoing training and continuing education.

Possess a strong understanding of human anatomy and cross-sectional anatomy, along with proper positioning skills and effective utilization of protocols and scanning techniques.

Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of routine procedures and applications.

Adhere to regulatory standards set by MQSA and ACR.

Maintain continuing education credits and professional licenses as required by the New York State Department of Health and The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

New hires will receive cross-training to perform additional modalities as needed by the department.

Required Qualifications:

  • New York State License and ARRT Certification with Mammography modality.
  • Exceptional diagnostic imaging skills in accordance with standardized procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and patient care skills.
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy and cross-sectional anatomy, along with proper positioning techniques.
  • Ability to maintain continuing education credits and professional licenses as mandated by relevant authorities.

Compensation: $45/hr - $55/hr
The provided compensation range is based on industry standards, with salary determinations influenced by factors such as experience and position location.
