Position Overview:

The Senior Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing comprehensive engineering and maintenance functions within the facility, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, fulfilling product supply obligations, and optimizing financial outcomes while fostering continuous improvement and strategic planning for long-term site investments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all engineering and maintenance operations at the facility, serving as a pivotal member of the Site Leadership Team and providing guidance across various cross-functional teams while acting as the Process Safety Champion.
  • Ensure compliance with Global Engineering Standards and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) regulations.
  • Act as a sustainability advocate, driving initiatives for energy efficiency and supporting GSK's commitment to low carbon operations.
  • Lead engineering projects related to the design, specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of plant systems and process equipment, ensuring alignment with quality, budget, and timeline requirements.
  • Manage troubleshooting and system enhancement efforts to maintain operational reliability and meet overall site objectives.
  • Direct automation initiatives, including the design and operational support for plant control systems and databases to achieve operational goals.
  • Guarantee that all equipment, processes, and facility systems comply with GSK standards, safety protocols, and applicable governmental regulations.
  • Supervise maintenance operations, including utilities management, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs to ensure maximum equipment effectiveness and minimize downtime.
  • Develop and oversee capital programs for the facility, aiming to meet plant objectives within established timelines and budgets exceeding $30 million annually.
  • Lead safety initiatives, including hazard assessments, safety training, and incident investigations, to achieve site safety targets.
  • Maintain relationships with local utility providers and municipal authorities to ensure business continuity.
  • Serve as the Duty Holder for critical safety programs, holding ultimate accountability for their outcomes.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Chemical, Civil)
  • Over 15 years of relevant experience in Biologics, Mammalian, Cell Culture, Vaccines, Monoclonal Antibodies, and related fields.
  • Technical expertise in biologic bulk drug substance processes from vial to bulk fill.
  • Experience in managing engineering teams or organizations for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Proven track record in managing large-scale projects and capital investments.
  • Experience in the design, construction, and startup of commercial pharmaceutical facilities, particularly in biopharmaceuticals or vaccines.
  • Familiarity with cGMP standards and bioprocessing guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a large pharmaceutical company, understanding the dynamics of site-based and central engineering roles.
  • Operational and capital budgeting experience with a proven ability to manage projects to completion within budget and on schedule.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with peers, subordinates, and senior personnel across scientific, engineering, and operational disciplines.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in team building and participation in cross-functional, self-directed work teams.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and influencing abilities.
