POSITION OVERVIEW

The Clinical Social Worker/Clinical Counselor is responsible for delivering addiction counseling services in alignment with licensure standards to clients across various departmental programs. This role involves providing treatment services consistent with the department's therapeutic approach and offering clinically based training to fellow professionals on diverse topics as assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Behavioral Health Functions:

1. Collect pertinent client information through screenings, assessments, and case history documentation; analyze findings to identify treatment needs and intensity.
2. Develop Individual Service Plans that comprehensively address the treatment requirements of clients.
3. Deliver clinically-based training and supervision to other clinicians and interns on various subjects as required.
4. Provide therapeutic interventions for clients in crisis situations, including suicidal ideation.
5. Refer clients to additional treatment and support services based on assessed needs, including medical providers and support groups.
6. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions in accordance with licensure and departmental guidelines.
7. Facilitate educational-based group sessions that align with the department's chosen treatment modalities.
8. Offer consultation, training, and treatment planning for staff members.
9. Maintain accurate case files, document care notes, and track referrals and related documentation.
10. Prepare presentations and detailed client progress reports as necessary.
11. Uphold ethical standards of practice, professional competence, confidentiality, and accountability to clients and the profession as per New Mexico licensing board regulations.
12. Participate in staff meetings and team conferences as assigned.
13. Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Mental Health, Social Work, or a related field, along with a minimum of two (2) years of post-graduate, supervised experience in individual and group therapy for individuals with co-occurring substance misuse and mental health disorders. Alternatively, an Associate's degree in a related field with four years of relevant experience.

Current and valid New Mexico Licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADAC), or Licensed Substance Abuse Associate (LSAA). A current provisional license from the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department in any of the aforementioned license types may also meet the licensure requirement, provided it remains valid.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Compliance with the following is required for this position:

1. Successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
2. Adherence to the County's safety guidelines.
3. Possession and maintenance of a New Mexico driver's license.
4. Completion of required FEMA training as assigned.
5. New hires at the Department of Behavioral Health Services facility must complete a caregiver criminal history screening. A conviction of a disqualifying condition may result in termination or disqualification from hiring.
6. Flexibility to work various shifts and schedules as needed by the department.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Most essential duties are performed indoors in a controlled environment.
2. The working surface is typically even and may be carpeted or tiled.
3. Indoor surfaces are generally dry and may involve stairs.
4. Potential work hazards include those typical of a correctional facility environment, with exposure to noise and situations that could involve serious injury.
5. Work may be performed independently or collaboratively with groups and teams.
6. Required to work varying shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.

EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS

1. Daily use of computers and communication devices.
2. May involve the use of facility keys and security equipment.
3. Occasional handling of first aid and oxygen equipment.
4. Administrative duties typically require the use of fax machines, computers, photocopiers, and telephones.
