POSITION SUMMARY


The Licensed Clinical Counselor will deliver addiction counseling services in alignment with licensure standards to clients across various departmental programs. This role involves providing treatment services consistent with the department's therapeutic approaches and offering clinically-focused training to other professionals within the organization.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

FUNCTIONAL AREAS:

Behavioral Health Services:

  • Collect pertinent client information through screenings, assessments, and case history documentation; analyze findings to determine treatment needs and intensity.
  • Develop Individual Service Plans that comprehensively address client treatment requirements.
  • Deliver clinically-based training and supervision to fellow clinicians and interns on various topics as assigned.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions for clients experiencing crises, including suicidal ideation.
  • Refer clients to additional treatment and support services based on assessed needs, including medical providers and support groups.
  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions in accordance with licensure and departmental guidelines.
  • Facilitate educational-based group sessions following the department's treatment protocols.
  • Offer consultation, training, and treatment planning for staff members.
  • Maintain accurate case files; document care-related notes and keep records of referrals and associated forms.
  • Prepare documents for presentations and detailed client progress reports as required.
  • Uphold ethical standards of practice, ensuring professional competence, confidentiality, and accountability to clients and the profession as per New Mexico licensing board standards.
  • Participate in staff meetings and team conferences as assigned.
  • Perform other job-related duties as necessary or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


A Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Mental Health, Social Work, or a related field, along with a minimum of two (2) years of post-graduate, supervised experience in individual and group therapy for individuals with co-occurring substance misuse and mental health disorders.

OR an Associate's degree in a related field with four years of relevant experience.


Possession of a current and valid New Mexico Licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADAC), or Licensed Substance Abuse Associate (LSAA).


Alternatively, a current provisional license from the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department in any of the aforementioned license types may temporarily fulfill the licensure requirement, provided it remains valid. Failure to maintain active licensure will result in reassignment or termination.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The offer for this position with Bernalillo County is contingent upon compliance with the following:

  • Successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  • Adherence to the County's safety guidelines.
  • Possession and maintenance of a New Mexico driver's license.
  • Completion of required FEMA training as assigned to the position.
  • New hires at the Department of Behavioral Health Services will undergo a caregiver criminal history screening. Conviction of a disqualifying condition may result in termination or disqualification from employment.
  • All positions may require working various shifts and schedules based on departmental needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Most essential duties are performed indoors in a controlled environment.
  • Indoor working surfaces are typically even and may be carpeted or tiled.
  • Work hazards may include exposure to noise and potentially dangerous situations.
  • Work may be performed independently or as part of a team.
  • Varying shifts and schedules may be required to meet departmental needs.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS

  • Utilizes computers and communication equipment regularly.
  • May handle facility keys and safety equipment as necessary.
  • Equipment typically used for administrative tasks includes fax machines, computers, photocopiers, and telephones.
  • Materials handled in administrative duties include files, forms, reports, and various office supplies.
