POSITION OVERVIEW
The Clinical Social Worker/Clinical Counselor is responsible for delivering addiction counseling services in alignment with licensure standards to clients across various departmental programs. This role involves providing treatment services consistent with the department's therapeutic approach and offering clinically-based training to other professionals on a range of topics as assigned.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional Areas:
Behavioral Health:
1. Collect pertinent client information through screenings, assessments, and case history documentation; analyze findings to identify treatment needs and intensity.
2. Develop Individual Service Plans that comprehensively address client treatment requirements.
3. Deliver clinically-based training and supervision to fellow clinicians and interns on various topics as required.
4. Provide therapeutic interventions for clients in crisis situations, including those at risk of self-harm.
5. Refer clients to additional treatment and support services based on assessed needs, including medical providers and support groups.
6. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions in accordance with licensure and departmental guidelines.
7. Facilitate educational-based group sessions that align with the department's treatment methodologies.
8. Offer consultation, training, and treatment planning for staff members.
9. Maintain accurate case files; document care-related notes and track referrals and necessary forms.
10. Prepare documentation for presentations and detailed client progress reports as needed.
11. Uphold ethical standards of practice, ensuring professional competence, confidentiality, and accountability to clients and the profession as per New Mexico licensing board standards.
12. Participate in staff meetings and team conferences as assigned.
13. Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Mental Health, Social Work, or a related field, along with a minimum of two (2) years of post-graduate, supervised experience in individual and group therapy for individuals with co-occurring substance misuse and mental health disorders. Alternatively, an Associate's degree in a related field with four years of relevant experience.
Current and valid New Mexico Licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADAC), or Licensed Substance Abuse Associate (LSAA). A current provisional license from the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department in any of the aforementioned categories may temporarily fulfill the licensure requirement, provided it remains valid.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Compliance with the following is required for this position:
1. Successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
2. Adherence to the County's safety guidelines.
3. Possession and maintenance of a New Mexico driver's license.
4. Completion of required FEMA training as assigned.
5. New hires at the Department of Behavioral Health Services will undergo a caregiver criminal history screening as mandated by the Caregivers Act. A disqualifying conviction may result in termination or disqualification from hiring.
6. Flexibility to work various shifts and schedules as needed by the department.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Most essential duties are performed indoors in a controlled environment.
2. Indoor working surfaces are even and typically carpeted or tiled.
3. Work may involve the use of stairs and exposure to noise and potentially hazardous situations.
4. Employees may work independently or collaboratively with teams, requiring adaptability to varying shifts and schedules.
EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS
1. Daily use of computers and communication devices.
2. Frequent handling of facility keys and security equipment.
3. Occasional use of first aid and oxygen equipment.
4. Administrative duties involve standard office equipment such as fax machines, photocopiers, and telephones.
