Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Supervisor to join our team at The SYGMA Network. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be responsible for supervising the daily activities of our transportation department, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and promoting a culture of safety and security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and train transportation associates to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including DOT and OSHA requirements.
  • Manage labor hours and consumable supplies within budget, and prepare work schedules as needed.
  • Assist with the training of new associates, including cross-training of existing staff.
  • Supervise the proper selection and utilization of company assets, and coordinate repairs as necessary.
  • Review delivery functions and productivity reporting, and suggest efficiency ideas and cost reduction measures.
  • Interpret and enforce company policies, protocols, and procedures, including food safety and record-keeping requirements.
  • Communicate with warehouse and customer service teams to resolve customer or delivery issues.
  • Maintain positive associate relations through regular meetings and open communication channels.
  • Work with the Safety Manager to conduct training, observations, and safety inspections, and make recommendations for corrective action.
  • Perform management functions, including staff selection, development, discipline, performance reviews, and terminations.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, and two to four years of transportation experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or four-year college degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, or similar major preferred.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License preferred, but not required.
  • Certificate of DOT regulations training preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, DOT rules and regulations, and preferred work methods and standard operating procedures.
  • Skill in making independent decisions in support of company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings, solve practical problems, and interpret instructions.
  • Ability to work in a disciplined manner, follow established procedures, and comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ability to manage pressures and stress associated with a deadline-oriented atmosphere and customer service issues.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The associate is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance.
  • The associate is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, push/pull up to 350 pounds using a 2-wheeled hand cart.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold, and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and may be required to work in confined spaces.
  • The associate works non-traditional business hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call.
  • The associate may occasionally be required to travel to other distribution centers or the corporate office as business needs dictate.
