Job Title: Emergency Management Specialist

Join Denton County, TX as an Emergency Management Specialist and contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation plans and activities for the Denton County Emergency Management Program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the maintenance of the radio tower, mobile command unit technology, and radio cache.
  • Develop and maintain a state of readiness for the warehouse, vehicle fleet, and inventory management.
  • Assist in planning emergency preparedness drills, exercises, and trainings.
  • Develop and maintain job aids, standard operating guidelines, and procedures related to emergency management plans and Emergency Operations Center activities.
  • Attend public education events, seminars, conferences, workshops, classes, lectures, etc. to enhance and maintain knowledge of trends and developments in the field of emergency management.
  • Prepare Emergency Management plans and documents for Denton County.
  • Serve on a rotational on-call basis to activate EOC 24/7/365 as required by emergency and/or disaster situations that may require emergency management assistance.
  • Assist in the instruction of preparedness programs related to emergency management.
  • Correspond (written/verbal) with OEM internal and external stakeholders at various levels.
  • Organize, coordinate, and schedule meetings with OEM stakeholders.
  • Provide administrative support to Emergency Administration Manager (EAM/EMC).
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required for this position and a minimum of two years of experience in fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services, emergency management, CERT/Volunteer management, and training; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Basic certifications from the Federal Emergency Management Agency required at time of hire. IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800.
  • ICS-300 and ICS-400 preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days.
  • Amateur Radio License required within 6 months of hire.
