Position Overview:
Business Support Services of Salem is in search of a dedicated court reporter to deliver precise verbatim reporting for Social Security hearings within the Office of Hearings Operations (OHO).

Key Responsibilities:
(The following duties are indicative and may not encompass all responsibilities expected of the individual in this role.)
  • Prepare and set up recording devices to guarantee accurate documentation of testimonies provided by participants.
  • Ensure the production of a thorough and precise transcript or recording of the administrative hearing.
  • Collect and distribute relevant exhibits and supplementary materials throughout the hearing.
  • Offer administrative assistance as required.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Proficient understanding of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Ability to operate various office machinery, including copiers and fax machines.
  • Capability to maintain a professional demeanor and foster positive working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Ability to comprehend and adhere to both verbal and written directives.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, along with a professional appearance and conduct at all times.
  • Dependability and punctuality are essential.
  • Possession of reliable transportation is required.
  • Typing speed of 60 words per minute is necessary.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Access to a Printer/Scanner at home for scanning documents into PDF format.
  • Familiarity with legal or medical terminology is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Skilled in organizing and maintaining accurate files and records.

Training will be provided; prior experience as a Verbatim Hearing Reporter is not a prerequisite.
