Patient Access Coordinator

At Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, we are committed to delivering exceptional patient care and service. As a Patient Access Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our patients receive the highest level of care and service from the moment they arrive at our facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, responding to their questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Collect and verify patient demographic information, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Utilize multiple online order retrieval systems to verify or print patient orders.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefit levels through online tools or over the phone as necessary.
- Complete accurate handoff instructions and notes to scheduling staff, noting appropriately in Epic.
- Run real-time eligibility (RTE) on all patients to verify insurance and follow out-of-network policies as applicable.
- Schedule appointments and direct patients through our systems in a patient-friendly manner.
- Communicate effectively with various hospital departments and physicians' offices to ensure seamless patient flow.
- Proactively analyze account activity, identify problems, and initiate appropriate actions/resolutions.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews to ensure integrity of patient data information.
- Use effective service recovery skills to solve problems or service breakdowns when they occur.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2-3 years customer service or medical office experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer data-entry/typing.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to type 40 wpm.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Customer service oriented.
- Excellent organizational, time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Additional education.
- Additional language skills.
- Healthcare finance and/or healthcare insurance experience.
- Knowledge and experience in a healthcare setting, especially patient scheduling and/or registration.
