Position Schedule

This role requires two 12-hour shifts from 7 PM to 7:30 AM, with weekend shifts every other week.

Role Responsibilities

As a Patient Care Technician, you will embody the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. You will adhere to the organization's ethical standards and comply with all relevant policies and regulations.

Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN), your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing essential nursing care tasks as directed by an RN, such as monitoring vital signs, conducting blood glucose tests, and documenting patient intake and output.
  • Assisting patients with personal care and daily living activities, including bathing, grooming, and eating.
  • Reporting any unusual findings or changes in patients' physical, mental, or emotional states to the nursing staff.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in patient rooms.
  • Exhibiting flexibility, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multitask, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Utilizing critical thinking to prioritize and efficiently complete tasks as unit needs evolve.
  • Acting as a liaison between patient care units and other related departments.
  • Responding to calls and inquiries in a courteous manner, ensuring effective communication with staff, patients, and families.
  • Coordinating unit workflow in collaboration with the charge RN and/or assistant manager as necessary.
  • Assisting with pre-census tasks and validating daily admission, discharge, and census records as needed.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation.
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or completion of one semester of clinical training in nursing school.
  • CPR certification - Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.

Preferred:

  • Experience in phlebotomy.
  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing Assistant program or completion of a Phlebotomy course.
