Position Overview:

The Substance Use Recovery Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing recovery support services to individuals engaged in substance abuse treatment. Utilizing a strengths-based methodology, this position assists clients in achieving lasting recovery from substance use disorders by fostering community support networks and resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a mentor and guide for patients with Substance Use Disorders (SUD), facilitating their transition into recovery programs.
  • Empower clients on their recovery journeys through advocacy, support, and sharing knowledge.
  • Establish connections to both internal and community resources, and assist in relapse prevention planning.
  • Encourage patients to engage with local recovery communities, providing ongoing follow-up and support as needed.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to promote treatment adherence, especially in cases of relapse.
  • Be available for after-hours support via phone, with potential for variable evening and weekend work based on program needs.

Qualifications:

  • Current credential or license from a relevant state authority, if applicable.
  • Completion of at least 60 hours of peer recovery-focused education and training, covering essential topics such as documentation, crisis management, and cultural awareness.
  • A minimum of two years of personal recovery from Substance Use or Co-Occurring Mental Health Disorders.
  • Successful completion of the NCPRSS examination within four years of application.

Education and Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least one year of direct practice in a peer recovery support role, whether paid or volunteer.
  • Certification: Current or pursuing certification from the National Association of Drug and Alcohol Counselors.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in computer applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
