Job Summary:

The ESL Distance Learning Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the coordination of all adult ESL distance learning courses. This includes registering incoming students, assisting with the administration of pre- and post-tests, and collecting donations. The Coordinator will also be responsible for checking in with volunteer and/or paid teachers daily to ensure they have everything they need and are following all policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Program Management: Assist the ESL Program Manager with the management of student and volunteer files, tests, inventory of books and classroom supplies, and tracking student attendance.
  • Student Support: Respond to inquiries from prospective students, collect student demographics, and assist with student attendance/testing results for institutional reporting and program effectiveness.
  • Curriculum Development: Adapt current lesson plans to implement a distance learning workforce curriculum and contribute new lessons.
  • Community Partnerships: Maintain positive relationships with community partners, such as churches, universities, and workforce development organizations.
  • Referral Services: Work closely with the ESL Success Coach to make referrals to partner agencies as needed.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with the Family Literacy Coordinator to support familial academic curriculum-based lessons.
  • Professional Development: Promote the utilization of remote-learning model-based instruction to increase knowledge of digital literacy.
  • Decision-Making: Exercise independent judgment and initiative in making decisions related to student services, receiving general to moderate supervision from the Program Manager.
Physical Requirements:
  • Sedentary Activity: Sitting, standing, walking, talking, and working on a computer.
  • Lifting Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Minimum Educational and General Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: Project management experience and classroom instruction/management experience preferred.
  • Language Skills: Bi-lingual (English-Spanish) candidates are highly preferred. Proficiency in Arabic, Haitian-Creole, Burmese, or other languages is valued.
  • Cultural Competence: Ability to work with a culturally diverse population with sensitivity to the special needs of multicultural immigrant children, adults, and families.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including maintaining effective work relationships.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required. Experience with CASAS eTests and WorkReadyU client database plus or willingness to learn the database/software.
