About the Role:

The Boeing Company is seeking a skilled Precision Assembler & Surface Finish Specialist to join our team in Portland, Oregon. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assembling precision aircraft components and sub-assemblies, ensuring high-quality results and meeting strict specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble precision aircraft components and sub-assemblies, including control linkages, actuators, limit switches, and gear box assemblies.
  • Use computing equipment to obtain information, such as engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Obtain kitted detail parts, standards, and assemblies, and select the proper tooling kit to perform work on parts/assemblies.
  • Operate overhead cranes to locate parts/assemblies into position for assembly work.
  • Locate parts on assembly tools, mating parts, and/or assemblies per drawing, W/O, or tooling instructions.
  • Align parts to tool stops, matching pilot holes or by hand layout, and secure in place using Clecos or clamps.
  • Check for good edge margins and alignment, and shim parts as required.
  • Drill, ream, and countersink full-size holes in parts/assemblies in proper sequence and to correct size, per drawing, W/O, or tooling instructions.
  • Hone/ream features in parts using pneumatic tools for installation of bushings and bearings on parts/assemblies.
  • Disassemble parts and deburr holes using deburring tools and files to prepare for installation of fasteners.
  • Use solvents to clean surfaces prior to sealing or assembly, and install bushings into housings using an arbor press, C-squeeze, and/or hydraulic puller.
  • Apply liquid nitrogen to facilitate installation of bushings, as required, per BAC specifications.
  • Cold work holes to prepare for close-tolerance fastener installation, as required.
  • Perform surface/fay seal (e.g., BMS 5-95) on bushings/bearings and other part installations.
  • Roller/anvil swage or ball stake bearings and bushings into housings, and install hardware on electrical assemblies.
  • Use insertion tools to install wiring in plugs, and perform functional checks of ground studs to ensure proper operations.
  • Use a multimeter and power supply to calibrate (WOW) Weight On Wheels sensor per specifications.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., sealants and solvents) in an approved manner per (MSDS) Material Specification Data Sheets.
  • Install fasteners per drawing using correct tools, torque fasteners, and micro-shave high rivets to meet drawing requirements.
  • Apply sealant, alodine, primer, special finishes, as required by W/O, drawing, or BAC specifications.
  • Clean parts and identify by part marking, and present completed jobs or in-process checks to inspectors at appropriate steps in sequence.
  • Perform minor rework, as required, and contact team leaders or supervisors when assistance is needed or when any problems arise.
  • Maintain personal and tool certifications (e.g., bond and ground, crane handling, seal, LN2), as required.

Requirements:

  • Physically able to lift 35 or more pounds during a shift.
  • Experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment, such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators.
  • Capable of working any shift.
  • Experience or training in reading and interpreting drawings or blueprints.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED preferred.
