The Human Resources Specialist will oversee the daily operations of the Human Resources (HR) department by delivering administrative assistance to the HR function as required, including record management and payroll assistance. This role is accountable for coordinating and supporting a variety of HR initiatives and administrative tasks. The HR Specialist interacts with all levels of internal and external stakeholders, approaching deliverables with a customer-centric and collaborative mindset. The HR Specialist is responsible for maintaining comprehensive employee records (contact details, compensation rates, absences, promotions, etc.) often utilizing paper and HRIS (Human Resource Information System) software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer employee data in the HR database regarding personal information, position and salary modifications, benefits enrollment, and employment status.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for inquiries related to the entire employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, and payroll.
  • Input, maintain, and/or process information in the payroll system; this may include employee hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses, time worked, paid leave, holidays, deductions, and other relevant information.
  • Oversee the onboarding process from the completion of background checks to the first day of employment.
  • Assist in orienting new employees on their first day.
  • Execute routine tasks necessary to administer and implement human resource programs, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, leave management, disputes, investigations, performance management, and occupational health and safety.
  • Address employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, directing complex or sensitive issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Stay informed about trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Thorough understanding of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in human resource management is required.
  • SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to access and navigate various departments within the organization.
