Position Overview:

The Metallurgist is responsible for conducting thorough evaluations of diverse aerospace materials. Utilizing advanced optical microscopy and computerized image analysis techniques, the Metallurgist ensures compliance with material specifications set by prime contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

To excel in this role, the individual must effectively perform the following essential duties:
  • Adhere to the PCC Code of Conduct and all Cardinal Rules, emphasizing Quality and Safety.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by following functional safety guidelines, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct metallographic examinations of various aerospace materials, including Titanium, Steel, Aluminum, and Nickel alloys, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Utilize Optical Microscopy for detailed evaluations of microstructures.
  • Employ both foundry techniques and specialized software to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Analyze metal characteristics such as grain size, structure, and manufacturing defects, ensuring adherence to client specifications.
  • Perform micro examination and grain size mapping as per customer requirements.
  • Interpret complex aerospace material specifications accurately.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in metallurgy related to all test specimens within the laboratory.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications:

The following qualifications are essential for successful performance in this role:
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Proven capability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Commitment to 100% compliance with all company and regulatory standards.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • A Master's degree in Material Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Metallurgist is required.
  • Experience with NADCAP and ISO 17025 standards is advantageous.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours is necessary.
Physical Requirements:

The physical demands for this position include:
  • Regular use of hands for handling and manipulation, with frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 35 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:

The work environment typically involves:
  • Manufacturing and laboratory settings with moderate noise levels.
