Position Overview:

  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of materials used in aircraft structures and engines produced through hot forming and forging processes.
  • Develops procedures for the control and tracking of forged metal components.
  • Evaluates sales proposals, purchase orders, planning documents, customer specifications, testing protocols, and shipping documentation for metallurgical and technical accuracy.
  • Conducts technical assessments of raw material procurement orders.
  • Engages in analysis and experimental design related to the manufacturing of metallic aerospace components.
  • Reviews and updates specifications, issuing summaries for master specification files.
  • Ensures process control throughout all forging and heat treatment stages documented in job travelers.
  • Submits and monitors drawings, manufacturing plans, and procedures for forging and heat treatment.
  • Implements the most efficient processes and appropriate materials technology to enhance Company profitability.
  • Assesses chemical compositions and test results to determine their suitability for specific projects and authorizes material for production.
  • Offers technical support to clients and production staff.
  • Collects and analyzes data to improve processes and minimize nonconformities.
  • Leads and participates in initiatives aimed at continuous improvement.
  • Collaborates with Quality Control to audit external vendors providing heat treatment and product testing services.
  • Identifies process inconsistencies and communicates findings to Quality for documentation.
  • Conducts failure analysis to determine root causes and corrective measures.
  • Supervises forging processes and observes operations related to forging, melting, heat treatment, as well as non-destructive and destructive testing.
  • Prepares technical documentation and internal process specifications.
  • May supervise Process Controllers and laboratory functions, including planning and documentation. Responsibilities may involve interviewing and training staff, assigning tasks, and resolving issues.
Required Qualifications:
  • Proven leadership experience in previous roles is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze business publications, professional journals, technical guidelines, or governmental regulations.
  • Capable of drafting reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Effective communication skills to present information and respond to inquiries from management, clients, and production teams.
  • Proficient in advanced mathematical concepts, including exponents, logarithms, and permutations.
  • Skilled in applying mathematical operations for tasks such as frequency distribution and variance analysis.
  • Adept at employing logical or scientific reasoning to address a wide range of complex problems.
  • Ability to interpret nonverbal symbols (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in challenging contexts.
  • Competent in managing both abstract and concrete variables.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in producing clear and concise technical reports.
  • Experienced in designing comprehensive experiments.
  • Capable of applying common sense to execute detailed written or oral instructions, and manage problems involving concrete variables in standardized scenarios.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, etc.).
Experience & Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience in the forging industry or a closely related area.
  • Familiarity with ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, with additional experience in hot forming/forging of Titanium and its alloys, Aluminum alloys, and various steels.
