Folsom, California, United States California ISO Full time
Job Overview

Company Overview:
The California Independent System Operator (ISO) is responsible for overseeing the flow of electricity across the extensive high-voltage power lines that constitute a significant portion of California's energy grid. Our mission is to ensure the economic stability and well-being of millions of Californians by maintaining a reliable electricity supply around the clock.

As an unbiased grid operator, the California ISO facilitates access to the wholesale power market, which is designed to enhance resource diversity and reduce costs. We provide equal access to a vast network of power lines, thereby lowering barriers for various resources to compete in delivering power to consumers.

Our role is akin to that of air traffic controllers, ensuring fair and efficient management of electricity distribution without favoritism. The California ISO operates independently, ensuring timely and reliable delivery of electricity to utilities and consumers alike.

We prioritize the health, safety, and work-life balance of our employees, offering flexible work arrangements, including on-site, remote, or hybrid options.

Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Manager, you will be tasked with the development and execution of sophisticated applications that enhance the functions within Operations Engineering Services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that the daily Resource Adequacy program aligns with the requirements outlined in the ISO tariff and Business Practice Manuals (BPMs). You will provide necessary information and training to ISO management and external entities regarding the resource adequacy program.
  • Working autonomously with minimal oversight to deliver technical engineering support to System Operators, Operations Engineers, Client Relations representatives, and Market Operations staff. You will also collaborate with other departments within the ISO as required.
  • Acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Wheel Through Priority process, ensuring compliance with program requirements based on a comprehensive understanding of the entire process.
  • Maintaining and updating relevant Business Practice Manuals while ensuring adherence to the CAISO tariff. You will document and recommend improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of resource adequacy processes.
  • Analyzing existing programs and methods, and developing automated solutions to improve the efficiency and accuracy of Resource Adequacy processes and related data.
Qualifications:

Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a focus on Power Systems preferred.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of relevant experience in the electric utility industry, including areas such as Resource Adequacy, Operations Engineering, and electricity market systems.

Skills:
Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills are essential. The ability to work effectively in a team environment, along with excellent problem-solving capabilities, is crucial. Familiarity with data processing and proficiency in SQL or similar applications is preferred.

Compensation:
The pay range for the Senior Operations Engineer for Resource Adequacy is competitive and commensurate with experience.

All information will be kept confidential in accordance with EEO guidelines.
