Grid Operations Engineer

Job Summary:
The California ISO is seeking a highly skilled Reliability and Market Operations Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the transmission grid and the efficient operation of the ISO market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop Operating Requirements and Instructions: Establish and update operating limits to the grid, document associated operating procedures, and model market impacts of transmission constraints.
- Conduct Operating Studies: Prepare and conduct power flow, contingency, short circuit, stability, and post-transient analyses to maintain reliable operation of the grid.
- Provide Back Office Support: Assist Control Room shifted Reliability and Market Operations Engineers with day-to-day core job responsibilities, including performing operating studies and coordinating outages.
- Partner with Operations Planning: Assist with Full Network Model (FNM) promotion process, ensure streamlined inclusion of requests from RMOEs into the FNM process deadlines, and provide feedback to department engineers.
- Assist with Onboarding and Training: Provide detailed training on tools and processes to new engineers, prepare them for different assignments, and assist with technology enhancement projects.
- Represent ISO Operations Engineering Interest: Represent the ISO's operations engineering interest in applicable WECC and other industry meetings as assigned.
- Develop Automated Computer Programs: Develop, implement, and document automated computer programs and tools to allow for comprehensive monitoring of operational performance of the transmission system and detection of transmission system problems.
- Solicit and Analyze Issues: Solicit, collect, and analyze issues reported by Control Room shifted RMOEs to provide support to OES Leadership team and other Departments within the organization.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, concentration in Power preferred. Master's degree and/or Ph.D. preferred.
- Certifications: NERC Reliability Authority (or System Operator) Certification required or must be able to obtain NERC Certification within six months of employment.
- Experience: Two (2) or more years related experience, with experience conducting simulation and analytical studies of electric power systems, including transient stability and load flow analysis.
- Skills and Abilities: Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication and documentation skills, with a demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to use deductive reasoning and analytical thinking with sound judgment and decision-making skills. Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills are also essential.
Additional Information:
The pay range for the Reliability and Market Operations Engineer is $98,250 - $163,750/annually.
