About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and business-savvy attorney to join our Legal & Compliance Team as Commercial Counsel. In this role, you will collaborate closely with our Sales, Business Development, and other GTM Teams, as well as Client Services, Product, Procurement, Finance, Accounting, and Security. You will report to our Associate General Counsel, Commercial, and will be responsible for providing creative, proactive, and pragmatic legal guidance on a variety of commercial transactions, including strategic partner relationships, customer contracts, and vendor agreements.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Advise on commercial transactions, including strategic partner relationships, customer contracts, and vendor agreements.
  2. Partner with our Sales, Business Development, Procurement, Client Services, and other GTM Teams to build out, refine, and manage our commercial counseling function.
  3. Develop rich enablement tools, contract templates, and supporting processes to establish best-in-class contracting practices at Rippling.
  4. Navigate complex regulatory frameworks globally to create scalable and innovative solutions for our products and services.
  5. Collaborate cross-functionally with our internal teams (Privacy, Finance, Security, Product, and Engineering) on development and documentation of new features and services.
  6. Drive the compliance culture at Rippling and embed integrity and compliance in all of our operations as our company grows.
  7. Provide general legal support as needed.

Requirements

  1. 4+ years of experience at a law firm, in-house, or other relevant roles.
  2. Technology transactions experience is preferred, with a strong understanding of SaaS licensing, strategic alliances, channel, reseller, and referral sales, marketplaces, and other distribution models.
  3. Substantive knowledge of data integrations, privacy issues, and intellectual property.
  4. Entrepreneurial mindset, solution-oriented ethos, and ability to roll up your sleeves.
  5. Passion for efficient processes.
  6. Strong project management and organizational skills.
  7. Excellent drafting and written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  9. Sense of humor.
  10. Law degree (e.g., JD or equivalent).

Compensation

This role will receive a competitive salary + benefits + equity. The salary for US-based employees will be aligned with one of the ranges below based on location; see which tier applies to your location here.

The pay range for this role is:

144,000 USD per year (US San Francisco Bay Area)
