Role Summary

The Resident Support Specialist is responsible for overseeing the well-being of residents and their living spaces, managing admissions and discharges, and assessing and reporting on residents' conditions to the Program Manager, Case Manager, and Lead Support Specialist. This role also involves assisting staff with documentation and tracking residents' progress during discharge and follow-up processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver professional, compassionate, and secure care for all residents, responding to their needs promptly and courteously.
  • Monitor residents to maintain a safe, calm, and welcoming environment.
  • Clarify rules and procedures to all residents.
  • Ensure compliance with program policies and procedures.
  • Conduct intake assessments as necessary.
  • Input and update all relevant data in the HMIS system as required.
  • Adhere to all program guidelines and Salvation Army policies.
  • Complete all intake documentation and create individual resident files for new admissions.
  • Maintain daily logs, collect necessary signatures, and provide comprehensive end-of-shift reports to the incoming shift and Program Manager.
  • Conduct rounds and monitor the facility and residents as directed by supervisors.
  • Document and report any unusual incidents, occurrences, or injuries.
  • Ensure that residents' living areas are tidy, and common areas are free from hazards.
  • Collaborate with other staff to uphold safety and security protocols.
  • Maintain security within and around the facility.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations.
  • Uphold resident confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist Case Managers with documentation and tracking of residents post-discharge.
  • Answer and route incoming calls professionally and courteously.
  • Oversee residents' medication management.
  • Support kitchen operations as needed.
  • Help with the upkeep of common areas, room turnovers, laundry, and donations.
  • Be flexible to work irregular hours as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or management.
  • All tasks will be executed in a respectful manner, fostering a healthy sense of self-worth among clients and staff.
Work Environment

The role requires the ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. The individual must be able to lift up to 10 lbs and handle objects such as files and equipment. Proficiency in operating a computer, fax machine, and telephone is necessary.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED is required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree is highly preferred.
  • A valid Class C California Driver's License is necessary.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is mandatory for employment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Understanding and sensitivity to issues related to homelessness, mental health, and chronic illnesses.
  • Ability to complete an annual TB test and fulfill other required training sessions.
  • Basic knowledge of bloodborne pathogens and universal precautions, including the use of protective equipment.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification is required.
