Position Overview

The Resident Support Specialist is responsible for overseeing the well-being of residents, managing their admissions and discharges, and assessing and communicating residents' conditions to the Program Manager, Case Manager, and Lead Resident Support Specialist. This role also involves assisting staff with documentation and tracking residents' progress during discharge and follow-up processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver professional, compassionate, and secure care for all residents, responding to their needs promptly and courteously.
  • Monitor clients to ensure a safe, calm, and welcoming environment.
  • Clarify rules and procedures to all residents.
  • Ensure compliance with program policies and procedures among clients.
  • Conduct intakes as necessary.
  • Enter and update all relevant data as required.
  • Adhere to all program regulations and Salvation Army policies.
  • Complete all intake documentation, creating individual resident files for new admissions.
  • Maintain daily logs, gather necessary signatures, and provide comprehensive end-of-shift reports to the incoming shift and Program Manager.
  • Conduct rounds and monitor the facility and residents as directed by supervisors.
  • Document and report any unusual incidents, occurrences, or injuries.
  • Ensure that residents' living spaces are tidy, and common areas are free from hazards.
  • Coordinate with other staff to uphold safety and security protocols.
  • Maintain security both inside and outside the facility.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies.
  • Uphold resident confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist Case Managers with documentation and tracking residents during discharge.
  • Answer and direct incoming calls professionally and courteously.
  • Monitor residents' medication as needed.
  • Assist with kitchen duties when required.
  • Help maintain cleanliness in common areas, manage room turnovers, and handle laundry and donations.
  • Be flexible with scheduling and available for varying hours as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or management.
  • Conduct all responsibilities in a respectful manner, fostering a healthy sense of self-worth among clients and staff.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously. Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files and file cabinets, and reach overhead. Proficient in operating a computer, fax machine, and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; A.A. or B.A./B.S. preferred.
  • Valid Class C California Driver's License required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Must pass a criminal background check to qualify for employment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Understanding and sensitivity towards issues related to homelessness, mental health, and chronic illness.
  • Ability to obtain an annual TB test and complete required Salvation Army training.
  • Basic knowledge of bloodborne pathogens and universal precautions, including the use of protective equipment.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification is required.
