Charlotte, North Carolina, United States Church World Service Full time
Job Overview

The Bilingual Intensive Support Coordinator plays a crucial role in delivering tailored, collaborative home study services to unaccompanied minors and their guardians, ensuring a safe and efficient transition from federal custody. This position leverages clinical expertise to provide therapeutic, strengths-based, and culturally sensitive case management services to children identified as needing Level 3 care upon reunification and in their community. Regular in-home services are essential, focusing on the child's emotional state, reliability as a reporter, and self-awareness regarding their surroundings. This clinical evaluation method is integral to establishing a robust support network, effective communication channels, and productive collaboration with the child, guardian, and other household members. The Coordinator will also engage in outreach and education with community service providers to enhance existing services that may not fully meet the unique needs of immigrant children. The role involves consistent interaction with Child Protection Services, Trafficking Victims Assistance Programs, and mental health service providers.

Key Responsibilities

Home Study

  • Conduct comprehensive in-person home assessments to interview, evaluate, and identify priorities and trends that inform psychoeducational sessions with guardians.
  • Complete home study recommendations promptly following referral.

Post-Release Services

  • Facilitate weekly in-person visits with children recently released from federal care to ensure placement stability and child safety while assessing risk and protective factors.
  • Implement safety planning and risk assessments, crisis interventions, with an emphasis on family preservation and collaboration with mental health providers.
  • Advocate for children and their families to overcome barriers to accessing essential resources and assist them in navigating complex systems such as child welfare and immigration.
  • Conduct child-centered needs assessments.
  • Develop and prepare individualized, strength-based, goal-oriented service plans.
  • Coordinate referrals and address obstacles in critical service areas, including legal, educational, medical, and mental health; assist unaccompanied minors and their guardians in accessing community services.
  • Facilitate access to youth programs and activities that foster connections to their cultural heritage.
  • Provide psychoeducation to children and guardians on relevant topics, particularly regarding safety.
  • Utilize clinical insights to craft supportive plans for children and guardians in managing family reunification challenges.
  • Monitor progress towards goal achievement.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children, including vigilance for signs of trafficking, abuse, and neglect; adjust safety plans as necessary.
  • Act as a mandated reporter for child abuse and neglect, collaborating with state child welfare as required.
  • Build networks and partnerships within the community to educate providers on children's needs and strengthen partnerships in relevant areas.
  • Document case notes, enter data, and complete reports in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate internally with supervisors and caseworkers to accept referrals for children needing more intensive Level 3 services. Participate in supervision, team meetings, and training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a related behavioral science with direct clinical experience as a program requirement; candidates with a Bachelor's degree and at least five years of demonstrated clinical case management experience will also be considered.

Experience:

  • Experience in trauma-informed assessment, crisis intervention, and safety planning is essential.
  • Prior experience identifying community social services and resources is required.
  • Experience navigating complex systems (child welfare, immigration, court systems, etc.) is necessary, along with prior clinical experience working with clients in acute crisis.
  • A minimum of 2 years of post-graduate direct clinical service experience is required.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in reading and writing in both Spanish and English.
  • Ability to establish trust and rapport with clients while maintaining composure and sound judgment in high-stress situations.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess and maintain active licensure or be eligible for licensure.

  • Valid driver's license and insurance are necessary.
  • Personal vehicle is required.
  • Comfortable conducting visits in clients' homes, including in diverse socio-economic areas.
  • Must be able to travel frequently and independently, often with limited notice.
